Phase 3 – Modules, Minimum Duration, and Learning Objectives

Phase 3 of the PESR program builds on your supervised driving practice and introduces new risk factors that drivers face daily. It helps students understand the importance of speed management, cooperative road sharing, and the impact of alcohol and drug use.

⏱️ Minimum Duration

You must spend at least 56 days in Phase 3 before you can proceed to Phase 4.

πŸ“š Modules in Phase 3

  • 8. Speed
  • 9. Sharing the Road
  • 10. Alcohol and Drugs

🚘 Required In-Car Driving Sessions

You will complete 6 in-car sessions during this phase. These lessons are designed to improve your judgment in high-risk situations and help you apply defensive driving techniques in real traffic.

  • In-Car Session 5
  • In-Car Session 6
  • In-Car Session 7
  • In-Car Session 8
  • In-Car Session 9
  • In-Car Session 10

⚠️ Common Challenges

πŸ’‘ Tips for Success

  • Keep a driving journal to reflect on your in-car sessions.
  • Ask your instructor for feedback β€” especially about risk areas.
  • Drive with an accompanying driver as often as possible between lessons.
  • Review the effects of alcohol and drugs on reaction time and decision making.

🎯 After Phase 3

When Phase 3 is complete, you’re ready for Phase 4, the final step before being eligible for the theory and practical SAAQ exams.
